ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (WTHR) – A golden sunrise greeted hundreds of colorful hot air balloons over Albuquerque Saturday morning.
Balloons launched in two waves in a “mass ascension” on the final weekend of the nine-day Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta.
They actually need directors to coordinate the launch so all the balloons get off the ground safely.
The fiesta got its start back in 1972 with just 13 balloons.
Now some 550 balloons representing 17 countries are taking part.
