A Taiwanese tourist has been fined for taking to a Boracay beach in a bikini that was “basically a piece of string”.

Lin Tzu Ting was arrested by police on the Philippines island after photographs of her wearing a string bikini – which admittedly left little to the imagination – went viral on a local Facebook group.

The images were shared by more than 55,000 users and attracted an insane amount of comments.

It led police to track down the 25-year-old and slap her with a fine worth about $350 AUD.

Police chief Jess Baylon told the Philippine Daily Inquirer the woman was photographed by residents and tourists.

“It was literally a string,” she said.

“In our conservative culture, it is unacceptable.”

The tourist was reportedly taken aback by the reaction, saying her barely-there bathers were just a form of expressing herself.
