Before we go any further—and a bunch of y’all get mad—let’s define a viral fail so we’re all on the same page. A viral fail is something so funny, absurd, or, sure, mildly (mildly!) offensive, that it made a bunch of us who spend too much time on the internet go “oh god, lol.” Apply that to food, and we’re in the realm of cakes that accidentally look like vulvas and famous pancake houses that pivot to burgers.
The Brief Reign Of IHOB
To be fair, this whole thing was objectively a success, as IHOP’s stint as the International House of Burgers proved to be very impressionable and lucrative for them. That said, the brief moment in time where we all legit panicked and thought IHOP was going to be IHOB from now on gave us “brb changing my name to Netflib,” so.
The Teigen Attempt At Healthy Fast Food
Not sure what Chrissy Teigen was expecting when she asked the world “what do you think is the healthiest meal (not side) of any normally junky fast food chain? NO JOKE ANSWERS PLEASE this is serious,” but the responses were so upsetting they prompted her to (lovingly) shut the thread down with a quick “You can stop now I can tell we’re all gonna die.” Way 2 go, team.
The…Extra Special Birthday Cake
The baker herself explains it best: “My son is obsessed with all things gold and crystals at the moment, so I decided to make him a ‘geode’ cake for his 6th birthday…it wasn’t until I finished it that I realized I’ve basically made him a sparkly vagina 🙈🙈🙈.” While she was out here panicking, she unknowingly became the inspiration behind an actual “vageode” cake, which is now available to ship across the U.S. Thanks, mom!
The Kardashian Cake Surprise
Listen. I don’t really want to talk about it, but there was a big, gross bug headed right for baby Dream’s second birthday cake and Kylie Jenner accidentally broadcasted it to the whole internet. OK. Bye.
The Sweetest Royal Wedding Dress
There was no denying Pippa Middleton looked fantastic at Meghan and Harry’s wedding in May. There was also no denying that she looked as though she’d stepped right into a can of Arizona Iced Tea and added a hat.
The Most Publix Scandal Of All Time
All Cara Koscinski wanted was to congratulate her son on his outstanding, summa *cum* laude high school achievement in the form of a delicious sheet cake from Publix. Was it so much to ask? (Yes. Apparently it was.)
This Instance Of Royal Thievery
This is not really in any way, shape, or form a “fail,” but it’s real cute when Prince Harry realizes he’s been caught red-handed stealing cookies, so I’ll allow it.
The #SlamminSalmon Challenge
Unclear as to why people would ever be upset about someone chugging beer through the funnel that is a gigantic fish carcass, but alas. You can’t please everyone, I suppose.
The Great Domino Tattoo Debacle Of 2018
Do you remember where you were when news of Dominos Russia rolling out its “free pizza for life” campaign broke? I certainly do. I was sitting at my desk, realizing a lot more people than Dominos had anticipated were about to go get tattoos of their logo just for the promise of free pizza, and lo and behold, I was RIGHT. By the time a few hundreds pizza tats hit Insta, the chain ask everyone to please, please stop, as they were just not going to give out that much free pizza.
The Grossest Condiment
Someone decided peanut butter would be a cool thing to put on hot dogs, so we went out and put peanut butter on some hot dogs. The moral of the story is that not everybody knows what they’re talking about. Also, the internet is a very dark and twisty place.
