Taika Waititi and James Rolleston have cooked up a new internet challenge which looks set to go viral.
Inspired by a fantasy sequence in the hit Kiwi comedy The Breaker Upperers where Rolleston bathes himself in Coca-Cola, the film’s executive producer Waititi stars in a new internet video which shows his him attempting to emulate it – with mixed success.
“My eyes and my ears – that is the worst,” he opines after dousing himself in the brown liquid, before adding that, “it’s going down my pants”.

Having responded to the challenge to complete it by Rolleston, Waititi had, in turn, dared “producer extraordinaire” Bailey Mackey, “ego-maniac and superstar actor” Julian Dennison and “Clifford” (“I don’t know what he does”) Curtis to take on the Flashdance-esque self-drenching.
However, by the end of the clip, perhaps realising how awful it felt, he had decided to revoke his request of the others.
The video is the second from The Breaker Upperers‘ team to catch the eye this week. Earlier, co-writers, directors and stars Jackie van Beek and Madeleine Sami had made a plea to Celine Dion to come and watch the film in Australia (where it has just opened) while she was touring the country. They received unexpected support from Kiwi-born actor Russell Crowe, who reminded Dion of a meeting the pair had in Los Angeles.
Meanwhile, Waititi has been handed jury service.
The Kiwi film-maker will join actors Naomi Watts and Christoph Waltz and this year’s Oscar-winning director Guillermo del Toro in presiding over the handout of the main prizes at this year’s Venice Film Festival in September. One of the jury’s main tasks is to hand out the prestigious Golden Lion award, which last year went to del Toro’s The Shape of Water.
