Post that maligned school goes viral, management files plaint | Coimbatore News

Udhagamandalam: Good Shepherd International School in Ooty has lodged a complaint with police against an unidentified person who was behind an anonymous and maligning post doing the rounds on social media.
The post said the school had bribed the district administration a sum of Rs 10 crore to obtain license for a 5000 sq feet building.
The post also alleged that in general that the Nilgiris district was becoming a hub for various anti-social activities, including deforestation and illegal money transactions through NGOs.
The post also carried a picture of Nilgiris district collector J Innocent Divya, though the post did not mention her name or her designation.
When contacted, the management of the Good Shepherd School told TOI, “We have lodged a complaint with police in this connection.”
The management said, “We had obtained sanction for a building measuring 2 lakh sq feet, some two years ago. The process was initiated more than four years ago. We obtained the building license from the competent authority without any procedural lapse and without paying a single paisa to any of the agencies. The construction is underway.”
Nilgiris SP C Kalai Chelvan said, “The management of the Good Shepherd International School has given a petition seeking intervention of police to identify and nab the culprit who had posted the message to malign the name of the school.” He said, “The case is being pursued by the cybercrime wing. We will nab the culprit in a day or two.”
In the meantime, collector Divya said, “I will call for a press meet tomorrow to clarify the stand of the district administration. Once the culprit is identified, a defamation case will be slapped against the culprit.”
