PERRY CO., Ky. (WYMT) At a time when school safety is a hot topic, the Perry County Sheriff’s Department has stationed deputies in schools throughout the county.
The point of the SRO’s, which stands for school resource officers, is to patrol the school building keeping the kids safe but also showing the students that they are not the enemy.
Shawn White is the SRO at East Perry Elementary and had a picture of him posted to Facebook.
He was eating breakfast with his son, something he tries to do with all kids.
“Anytime a child can have an interaction with a police officer, sometimes the only interaction they have had it been bad, so anytime they can have an interaction with an officer it is great,” said White.
Perry County Sheriff Joe Engle said the picture encompasses who Shawn White is perfectly and proves the importance of SRO’s in our schools.
“You know that’s him. It wasn’t staged or anything like that. Someone snapped that without him knowing. You can see his demeanor that’s just who he is, and that’s why we put guys like that in our schools,” Said Sheriff Engle.
