An appalling video of a dog being savagely beaten by a vicious thug has united animal lovers in their campaign to track the “scumbags” responsible down.

The video, seen by millions online in the last few days, has brought people across the globe to tears as the poor pup is repeatedly punched and abused.

The video, which is too graphic for Mirror Online to show, was seemingly recorded by the vile perpetrators themselves, who slap then brutally punch the dog while laughing.

Differing reports suggest the footage was filmed in Iraq or in Iran. Some reports says the pair have been arrested but we have not been able to verify this.

Sharing the video on Twitter, blog Protect All Wildlife said on Monday: “The scum involved have been arrested. Apparently they got the s*** beaten out of them beforehand!!

“Sadly it appears the INNOCENT dog died.”

Thanking comedian and The Office creator Ricky Gervais, who campaigns for animal welfare, for sharing the clip, they added: “# ThereIsNoExcuseForAnimalAbuse EVER!!”

In his retweet, Gervais said: “Who are these dirty, sub-human c****? Surely someone knows? (This video is f***ing horrible by the way and shows a beautiful dog being hurt, in case you don’t want to watch)”

The vile thugs laugh as they hurt the dog

The man can be seen swinging his arms back and hitting the animal with force

It is obvious the animal is in considerable pain, yet it doesn’t bite or react

Ricky Gervais described the video as “f***ing horrible”

Protect All Wildlife is run by mental health nurse Paul Christian, from York, who dedicates his spare time to raising awareness of animal abuse.

The 57-year-old shared the horrific video, which he believes to have been filmed in Iran, on Sunday (April 1) after seeing it on his timeline.

He told Mirror Online: “It just horrified me that a, people were doing it, and b, the fact that others were filming it and getting enjoyment out of it.”

Explaining why he shared the upsetting clip, which on his account alone has been retweeted more than 11,282 times, he said: “I have quite a large following, stuff like that I can retweet and name and shame and raise awareness. In a lot of cases, it gets the people involved caught.”

After slapping the dog, the vile man punches it several times

People around the world are attempting to track down the “scumbags” responsible

He added that he thinks “there’s got to be a custodial sentence” for those involved, which could be up to three people.

Twitter users suggested some much harsher punishments, while there was an emotional outpour from others.

Ali J said: “I would smash each and every one of them up cave their sculls [sic] in that poor poor dog.”

“I’m going to throw up,” said UpsideDownyJunior.

Debbie S said: “This sweet dog has died apparently. This cowardly thing has supposedly been found by three activists that will pay him a visit. I hope their ‘visit’ goes well.”

RezaMKZ claimed the thugs have been found, adding: “He is Iranian and lives in Ahvaz city in Iran, but unfortunately there is no animal protections laws in Iran.”

Denise Weber said: “I lose hope in mankind whenever I see such horrible stuff… As long as people are capable of torturing helpless animals and enjoy doing that there’s no way to make this world a better place it’s just sick.”

According to the Malatya Guncel, the Iraqi government said two suspects have been apprehended and arrested.

Mirror Online is working to establish exactly when and where the incident happened and the names of those involved.
