(WYMT/CBS) – Johnson County native Tess Talley told “CBS This Morning” she is still hunting , even after the outrage sparked by a photo she posted in 2018.

In 2017, Talley killed a giraffe in South Africa  on what she called a conservation hunt. On June 7 of this year, she interviewed with CBS about the controversial photo again.

“It’s a hobby, it’s something that I love to do,” she said. “I am proud to hunt and I am proud of that giraffe.”

Talley said the conservation hunt was designed to manage the amount of wildlife in the area. She made decorative pillows and a gun case out of the giraffe, and said it was “delicious”.

The Eastern Kentucky hunter still insists that the hunt was for conservation purposes, not for pure sport. She was surprised by the backlash she got on social media, but said that it is a tradition for hunters to pose for pictures.

The Humane Society of the United States and Humane Society International expressed concerns that hunts like these will hurt the conservation status of giraffes.
