The Department of Justice (DOJ) is set to resolve soon the complaint filed by the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) against a prosecutor whose traffic dispute video went viral online.
Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra made the assurance that the DOJ’s Internal Affairs Unit (IAU) will soon determine whether or not to administrative charge prosecutor Christine Villamora Estepa.
“Lapit na according to internal affairs (the IAU said it will soon resolve the complaint),” he said.
The secretary admitted that at the moment the IAU is prioritizing more serious cases.
“Marami kasing mas serious cases to resolve to than Estepa’s 5 minutes. (It has much more serious cases to resolve than Estepa’s five minutes,” said Guevarra as he referred to the five-minute video that went viral.
Estepa was caught in a video arguing with MMDA traffic enforcers over her illegal parking violation during one of the agency’s operations along Mayon street near Suki Market in Quezon City.
The video went viral after having been posted online in the social media accounts of Gadget Addict.
MMDA General Manager Jojo Garcia said Estepa committed at least four violations including illegal parking, violating the number coding scheme, arrogance and running away on a short chase from traffic enforcers.
After the incident, Estepa and her husband proceeded to the MMDA to apologize for what happened.
“We would like to take this opportunity to apologize to the MMDA enforcers especially to Colonel Bong Nebrija and constable Azures,” she stated.
“We ask for your understanding on the matter as well as emotions got the better of us,” she added.
