Southampton striker Charlie Austin has taken to Twitter to comment on his post-match outburst after the 1-1 draw with Watford.

With the hosts 1-0 up at St Mary’s, Austin had a goal chalked off to make it 2-0 after it was deemed “offside” by the officials.

The decision proved crucial as Jose Holebas’ strike denied Mark Hughes’ side a crucial win and meant the points were shared.

Austin fumed after the game and gave one of the most memorable interviews from a footballer in a long, long time.

His voice went very high and he’ll likely get a hefty fine coming his way, but the former QPR striker was full of emotion, passion and honesty throughout.

It’s ridiculous, they shouldn’t be in the game,” the former QPR said when speaking to to TV reporters.

They said it was offside, that is a joke.

“People go on about VAR, they clearly need help. If this is the best, most-watched league in the world then give them all the help they need. It is a joke.

“Sure there are many positives, we worked hard, we deserved three points and we would have got that had we not been let down by the official.

“We feel like we have been let down. I started well, worked hard to be up 1-0 at half-time and we stuck to the plan.

“We didn’t get beat but we should have gotten away with three points going into the international break.”

Austin has since tweeted his reaction to the interview but is sticking with this guns and says it was “spoken from the heart”.

The 29-year old’s musings garnered a whole lot of reaction on social media – with some finding it hilarious and others finding it refreshing to see a player come and be so honest.
