Mel C has confirmed that the Spice Girls reunion picture that went viral yesterday wasn’t just a photo op, saying that our favourite five girls are talking about their future as part of the band.

This weekend’s been great, hasn’t it? First, we get the Spice Girls snap on Instagram, and then Mel C confirms that the ladies are thinking up ways to spice up all our lives once more. Hai si ja, hold tight!

‘We have enjoyed a wonderful afternoon catching-up and reminiscing about the amazing times we have spent together,’ the group told Digital Spy through their spokesperson on Friday 2 February.

‘We are always overwhelmed at how much interest there is across the whole world for The Spice Girls. The time now feels right to explore some incredible new opportunities together.

‘We all agree that there are many exciting possibilities that will once again embrace the original essence of The Spice Girls, while reinforcing our message of female empowerment for future generations.’

And while this information was enough to illicit squeals from nineties babies everywhere, there’s nothing like hearing a confirmation come from an actual Spice Girl’s mouth to really pique one’s interest.

Mel C called Dermot O’Leary during his Radio 2 breakfast show this morning to talk about the reunion, saying: ‘The funny thing is, unfortunately, we can’t do anything without it being all over the press. It’s the worst kept secret in showbiz, isn’t it?’

Yes, yes it is.

But despite the announcement, the 44-year-old revealed that nothing no concrete plans have been made just yet.

‘It was lovely to get together and we are talking about opportunities and ideas we’ve got for the future, but it is early stages and there’s nothing set in stone,’ she explained.

‘There’s no big announcement –but it’s just great to be back in Spice World and to see the reaction.

‘It’s so lovely to know that people out there still care.’

The singer also revealed that it’s the first time all five members of the band have been back together since their performance at the Olympics closing ceremony all the way back in 2012 and said that she hopes whatever they do will be inspiring to a whole new bunch of fans.
