The UConn baseball season hasn’t quite started, but the Huskies are already making highlight reels around the country.
During a practice session Saturday morning inside “The Barn,” sophomore pitcher Mason Feole made what might turn out to be his best play all year.
The lefty from Wakefield, R.I. threw a fastball to junior John Toppa. Toppa, of Methuen, R.I. connected and sent a missile back at Feole. Feole quickly ducked, using his glove as a shield and caught the line drive. Teammates reacted with “oohs” and one yelling “Athlete!”
The video quickly went viral. It has over 233,000 views just on the UConn baseball Twitter account. Others including MLB.com and ESPN’s Sportscenter also picked up the video.
Last year, Feole went 7-3 with a 3.10 ERA and was named AAC rookie pitcher of the year.
UConn baseball opens its season Friday, Feb. 16 at Kennesaw State.
